Breaking into a house for loot is risky enough, but in LAG KILLS the homeowner is not only at home, he both lagging badly and furious about the intrusion. Solo developer DERANGED GAMES has opened a new playtest for the upcoming horror game, timed ahead of the annual Steam Scream Fest.
Players step into the shoes of a desperate intruder who targets what seems to be an empty house, only to find the owner is there after all. Surviving comes down to knowing when to loot, when to hide and when to make a run for the exit before he catches up.
This playtest is set to test and provide a final look at the revisions made to the single player build before development moves on to co-op, and it brings a range of new additions. The level is now fully playable and includes new hiding spots, while a playable lobby introduces a new building and placement system. Players will also find an in-game shop offering upgrades and accessories, along with an inventory system that lets them inspect items.
Elsewhere, the user interface has been overhauled, gameplay and performance have been optimised, and more jumpscares have been added. Towards the end of the level, a new lights-out sequence brings fresh cutscenes and its own style of gameplay.
Players can request access to the LAG KILLS playtest through the game’s Steam page.
