Ghouls, gremlins, and hex tiles are the building blocks of Fangtopia, a cosy puzzle game from developer Absolutely Games and publisher Secret Mode, now out on PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. On PC, it is available through Steam, the Epic Games Store and Stove.
Each game starts with a limited stack of hex-shaped tiles that players use to build a monster kingdom of fields, villages, forests, mountains, rivers, and railroads, earning points based on where they place pieces. Hitting score milestones unlocks landmarks, and completing the goals tied to those landmarks adds more tiles to the stack, keeping the game going. Monsters also arrive through portals, and finding each one a suitable home boosts your score.
You can choose from three modes. Fangtopia mode is the most relaxed option, Ghoulish mode adds complexity with more tiles for building enormous kingdoms, and Island mode centres on laying out large railroad networks.
The Stickerbook records landmarks and monsters unlocked during play, where players can take a closer look at each piece. The game supports both laid-back play and a more strategic approach, with leaderboards for players chasing top scores.
