Finishing Ball x Pit will open the way to a journey above the abyss when its paid expansion, Risen Ballbylon, launches on 12 November. Coming to PC, consoles and mobile for a listed price of $6.99, the expansion introduces new battlefields, characters and building options, with its content accessible only after completing the base game.
Developed by Kenny Sun and Friends and published by Devolver Digital, Ball x Pit has sold two million copies. Its next expansion reverses the direction of the lift, taking players upwards to the remains of Ballbylon floating above the pit. Each level represents a layer of the former city, whose population has been warped by the meteor’s effects.
Four new battlefields await, each with its own new bosses, alongside more than 40 new enemies. Players will also have 45 additional passives to incorporate into their runs, including Lucky Coin, Eldritch Gauntlet, Vampire’s Kiss, Volatile Explosive and Relentless Whip. Their effects have yet to be detailed.
The eight new playable characters introduce different ways to approach combat. The Sentinel can aim in any direction, while the Stonewaller’s balls warp to the opposite side the first time they strike a wall. The Right Hand Man makes positioning particularly relevant, with balls dealing double damage when they hit the right wall but only half damage when they hit the left.
Another 24 balls will expand the options for experimentation and fusion. The Beast ball attaches to enemies and continues damaging them until they die, the Kaiju ball triggers earthquakes, and the Misfortune ball curses enemies. A spiky Hedgehog ball is also among the additions.
Back at the village, Risen Ballbylon adds 20 buildings, including the Floating Fortress, Crystal Monolith, Soup Kitchen, Circus Tent and Fission Chamber. Players will also be able to mine crystals, a new resource that expands the game’s economy.
