Frontier Developments has shown the first gameplay footage of Planet Zoo 2 during the PC Gaming Show. The sequel is now available to pre-order on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, ahead of its launch on 13 October 2026.
Frontier is framing the game as a sizeable step up from its predecessor, describing it as its most authentic zoo simulation so far. The studio points to detailed fur, feathers, and scales, as well as animal behaviour, as areas of focus. Running alongside that is a heavier emphasis on conservation and rewilding, with players able to release animals back into their natural habitats as part of the broader goal of the simulation.
The trailer shown at the event focused on habitat construction and the Scottish Highland Wildlife Reserve, featuring the Red Deer, Masai Giraffe, Blackspotted Puffer, White-tailed Eagle, Great Hornbill, and Eurasian Beaver. These join the Grey Wolf, which was first shown at the Wholesome Direct on 6 June, as well as previously revealed animals including the Sumatran Tiger, Hawksbill Turtle, and Toco Toucan.
In terms of features, Frontier has outlined several pillars for the sequel. The animals are said to have their own behaviours and needs, while construction draws on the series’ piece-by-piece tools, with thousands of scenery pieces and blueprints, plus an expanded terrain editor with new tools.
A notable addition is the introduction of fully aquatic and flying species for the first time, along with custom aquariums and aviaries that open up environments both underwater and in the air. Animal management is also being expanded, with creatures behaving according to their current mood, requiring keepers to keep habitats supplied with water, food, enrichment, and other essentials.
Planet Zoo 2 will release on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on 13 October 2026.
