The Official Australian Cast Recording for Beetlejuice the Musical Now Live – Streaming, Vinyl and CD

Date:

Unfortunately, no matter how hard fans screamed “Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice!”, the Australian national tour of Beetlejuice the Musical concluded early – leaving all but Melbourne and Brisbane without the juice going loose on their home cities. While nothing is likely to replace the experience of watching the production live in your local theatre, Eddit Perfect and his new Excited Animal Records brand are offering the next best thing. While those of us who pre-ordered it early have been able to enjoy it for about a week now, the official Beetlejuice The Musical (Live At The Regent Theatre Melbourne) is now available on select streaming platforms, and via their dedicated online store both as CD and Vinyl.

As its title makes perfectly clear, this is a cast recording on the production’s original Melbourne season, specifically its opening night performance. It therefore features the original cast including Eddie Perfect as the titular character, Karis Oka as Lydia, Elise McCann and Rob Johnson as the Maitlands, Tom Wren as Charles Deetz, and Erin Clare as Delia Schlimmer. In addition to featuring all the songs found on other official soundtracks released for Beetlejuice the Musical internationally, it also features pretty much anything that could be considered a “musical moment”, so while it may not be a two-and-a-half hour recording of the entire production, it is at least a little more immersive.

This is the first release from Eddie Perfect’s new record label, with the promise of more to come. It makes one wonder what other Australian productions could see a proper release on CD/Vinyl in lieu of the often-imported Broadway / West End cast releases. Based on what I have seen this year, would love to see something for the recently touring Australian cast of Heathers the Musical next.
