Square Enix has marked this year’s Dragon Quest Day with several updates for the long-running role-playing game series, including a renamed Dragon Quest XII, a new Dragon Quest Monsters title, a Nintendo Switch 2 release for Dragon Quest XI S, and new sales figures for the HD-2D remakes.
One of the biggest announcements was an update on Dragon Quest XII, which has undergone a development restart under a new structure. The game is now titled Dragon Quest XII: Beyond Dreams, replacing its previous subtitle, The Flames of Fate. Square Enix has also refreshed the game’s logo and released messages from game designer Yuji Horii and executive producer Yosuke Saito, alongside in-development gameplay footage.
Square Enix also revealed Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World, the latest entry in the Dragon Quest Monsters series. The game is currently planned for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Windows. It will follow dual protagonists Bianca and Nera, who are known from Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride.
Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age is also heading to Nintendo Switch 2 on 24 September. This version will include the features from the previous Dragon Quest XI S release, with the addition of two display modes that let players prioritise either graphics or performance. Pre-orders begin on 28 May.
Mobile title Dragon Quest Smash/Grow is also taking part in the anniversary celebrations with a limited-time campaign. The campaign includes in-game events and rewards such as the co-op battle event “Drive Back the Dragonlord’s Army,” Princess Gwaelin’s exclusive equipment, and a Dragon Quest Anniversary Login Bonus offering up to 1,000 free Gems. The Dragon Quest I collaboration also remains available in the game, which can be downloaded through the App Store and Google Play.

The company also announced that Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake and Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake have sold a combined 4 million units globally.
