Marathon Season 2 is set to arrive on 3 June AEST, bringing a darker version of Dire Marsh, a new Runner shell and several progression changes. Players will also be able to try the game during Marathon Open Play Week, which runs from 3 June to 10 June. During this period, the full game will be available on PlayStation 5 without requiring a PlayStation Plus membership. Any progress made during Open Play Week will carry over into Season 2.
One of the major additions in Season 2 is Night Marsh, a new version of the Dire Marsh zone where darkness plays a much larger role. With light reduced across the area, players will need to rely more heavily on sound, awareness and careful movement when navigating the map. To help deal with the lower visibility, Season 2 introduces attached lights for Runner shells, as well as new loot options including Darksight scopes and signal flares. However, using light may also make players easier for enemies to spot. Night Marsh will also include new enemies as the anomaly becomes more active. The UESC has also increased its presence around the Complex building, although the reason behind that move has not yet been revealed.
Season 2 will expand the Runner line-up with Sentinel, a defensive shell built around controlling space and shaping encounters before they begin. Sentinel’s abilities focus on defensive safeguards, intel gathering and traps, giving players tools to slow enemy pushes and punish aggressive plays.
Progression is also being adjusted through a new system called the Cradle. This will allow players to level up the WEAVEworms that create their cybernetic body and shape their upgrade path across the season. Players will earn WEAVEworm Energy, which can be used to upgrade the Cradle and unlock stat gains and new perks. Energy can also be reallocated at any time during the season, allowing players to reset and rebuild their Runner shell around a different playstyle.
Season 2 will begin with a full reset for all Marathon players, putting everyone back on the same level in terms of gear. As players build their Runner back up, they will be able to collect new weapons, mods, cores and implants. Two new weapons are being added in Season 2. The KKV is a small-arms SMG designed for close-range damage, while the D54 Battle Pistol comes equipped with an integrated red dot optic.
Other Season 2 changes include faster faction progression, a larger Vault, improvements to some contracts and additional quality-of-life updates.
Marathon is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
