Microsoft has released World Update 21 for Microsoft Flight Simulator, focusing on providing a more detailed representation of the Australian continent. This latest update is available for users of both the 2020 and 2024 versions of the simulator, introducing new landmarks, activities, and a historically significant aircraft.
To coincide with the launch, the development team collaborated with the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS). During a launch event held at the RFS hangar in Bankstown, Sydney, a new firefighting mission for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 was demonstrated. This mission requires players to take on the role of a virtual pilot performing water bombing operations to extinguish a fire near Coffs Harbour, reflecting the real-world activities of the service.
The update introduces more than 30 hand-crafted points of interest throughout the country. These additions range from major urban landmarks in Sydney to rural icons located in the Outback. Specifically, players can now fly over several of Australia’s “big” landmarks, including The Big Mango, The Big Koala, and The Big Golden Guitar. Furthermore, new discovery flights have been added, allowing players to navigate guided routes over Canberra, the Whitsundays, and the Cocos Islands.
A variety of new flight challenges and activities are included in this package. For Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, the update adds four precision landings, two low altitude challenges, and two rally race challenges. Users of the 2020 edition receive three landing challenges and a new bush trip. Aviation enthusiasts also gain access to the CAC Boomerang, a fighter aircraft that was both designed and manufactured in Australia.

The Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 World Update 21: Australia is currently available as a free download to those who own either Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) or Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. It can be accessed on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and via Xbox Cloud Gaming for those with an Xbox Game Pass subscription.
