Nippon Ichi Software America (NIS America) has confirmed that their new action-oriented spinoff in the Disgaea franchise, titled Disgaea Mayhem, is set to launch on the PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC starting 23 July 2026.
Shifting away from the series’ traditional tactical role playing roots, Disgaea Mayhem aims to be an action RPG that grants players direct control over combat. The story follows a mercenary named N.A. who is tasked with battling monsters to earn money, while simultaneously fulfilling the requests of Princess Tichelle, a character with a strong desire for flan. This light hearted narrative seeks to focus on the unlikely partnership between the mercenary and the princess.
The gameplay features a system where players can equip and cycle through seven different weapon types, including swords, guns, axes, fists, and bows. Each weapon offers a distinct playstyle, and players are encouraged to switch between them to adapt to different combat scenarios.
Despite the change in genre, several core elements from the main Disgaea series will return. Players will be able to engage in heavy level grinding to reach high statistics and deal millions of points of damage. The Item World returns as a method for powering up equipment, and the reincarnation system allows players to reset their levels in exchange for higher base stats.
Additionally, the game includes the Dark Chocolate Assembly, where players can pass bills to influence game mechanics. Familiar demons from the franchise, such as Prinnies, can also be recruited to assist the player during their adventure. The question is…. will there be a bonus Asagi mode like other past spin-off games in the Disgaea series has had?
