Sony Interactive Entertainment Australia has marked three decades of PlayStation gaming in Australia by unveiling a giant PlayStation Memory Card installation at Sydney’s Overseas Passenger Terminal in The Rocks, coinciding with 30 years since the original console launched locally on 15 November 1995.
Taking inspiration from Australia’s tradition of “Big Things”, PlayStation Australia has created the Big PlayStation Memory Card, a structure standing over six metres tall. The monument is a 100-times-scale recreation of the original PlayStation memory card accessory that players once relied on to store their save files.
The installation seeks to serve as a tribute to the local gaming community, featuring hundreds of genuine memories sourced and submitted by Australian players. These stories have been curated into the monument as a way of highlighting personal “gaming saves” and moments that have defined three decades of PlayStation in the country.

The anniversary activation is open to the public and supplemented by a range of additional activities. Visitors can look forward to PlayStation 30th Anniversary giveaways, cosplay appearances based on iconic PlayStation characters, and an ASTRO BOT speed run competition as part of the celebrations.
