Square Enix has released a free consumer demo for Octopath Traveler 0 across Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and PC via both Steam and the Microsoft Store. Save data from the demo can be carried over to the full game when it launches on 4 December 2025.
The demo begins with players creating their own custom protagonist before stepping into a story shaped by the destruction of their hometown. Up to three hours of content are available, covering the Prologue and Chapter 1 of three Master arcs: Master of Wealth, Master of Power and Master of Fame. The opening chapter of the Kindlers of the Flame storyline is also included, giving players an early look at the new town building feature that focuses on rebuilding Wishvale.
Octopath Traveler 0 seeks to set players upon a tale of restoration and retribution involving divine rings across the realm of Orsterra. The game brings back familiar systems from the series such as Path Actions and the Break and Boost battle mechanics, while adding character customisation for the first time. The narrative aims to expand upon ideas introduced in Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent and incorporates new story beats tied to restoring a ruined town. The series’ HD 2D art style also returns.
A Save Data Bonus Campaign is also in effect. Players with save or play data from select Square Enix titles, including Octopath Traveler, Octopath Traveler II, Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster, Dragon Quest III HD 2D Remake or Dragon Quest I and II HD 2D Remake, can redeem additional rewards in Octopath Traveler 0 on the corresponding platform.
