Set to offer a new musical action-adventure game to international audiences, Nippon ichi Software America (NIS America) has confirmed they are set to publish Gemdrops and BROCCOLI’s Etrange Overlord on the Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
Etrange Overlord follows Étrange von Rosenburg, who is executed after being falsely accused of assassinating the king and awakens in hell. Rather than accept her fate, she sets her sights on taking over. For those wondering why NIS America could have picked up publishing rights to this title, the project is led by Sohei Niikawa, known for Disgaea and Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure – both Nippon Ichi Software titles.
Combat centers on a revolving lane system that sends items, buffs, and even characters circling the field, creating a constant flow of pick ups and positioning choices. A separate multiplayer mode supports 2 to 4 players and lets friends tackle action focused stages together. Sweets play a role too, with Étrange’s confectionery cravings granting temporary buffs and bonuses.
Character designs come from illustrator Shinichiro Otsuka, with a large ensemble of allies who ride, fight, and sing their way across the underworld. The game leans into musical elements alongside its action RPG systems.
