Nintendo used its latest presentation to mark the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., which debuted in Japan on 13 September 1985. During the event, Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 will arrive on the Nintendo Switch system on 2 October 2025.
Both titles will be bundled together physically under the name Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2, while digital buyers will have the option to purchase each game individually through the Nintendo eShop. Players can expect enhanced visuals, updated UI, an in-game music player, new Storybook content, and the choice between button-and-stick or motion controls.
A free Nintendo Switch 2 update is also planned, adding 4K resolution support.
New merchandise is on the way in 2026. Two larger than standard size amiibo figures, Mario & Luma and Rosalina & Lumas, are scheduled for release on 2 April 2026. Scanning Mario & Luma in either game provides a Life Mushroom, while Rosalina & Lumas grants a 1-Up Mushroom…. which is…. certainly interaction at the very least.
For those who enjoyed the narrative elements of the first game, Rosalina’s Storybook will be released as an illustrated hardcover edition.
