Serving as both a tale of two destinies and the starting point for what has become the Tales series’ graphical style ever since, Bandai Namco Entertainment has confirmed that Tales of Xillia Remastered will release worldwide on 31 October 2025, arriving on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. Originally released for the PlayStation 3 in 2011 and remaining console locked ever since, the remaster of this action RPG aims to bring updated visuals and a set of quality of life features while retaining the systems that defined the original.
Set in the world of Rieze Maxia where humans and spirits coexist, the story follows two parallel perspectives. Players can begin as Milla Maxwell, a mysterious woman accompanied by four powerful spirits, or Jude Mathis, an aspiring medical student from the capital. Their paths converge as they uncover a weapon deployed by the kingdom of Rashugal that drains mana and threatens the balance of the world, prompting a joint quest to dismantle the device and restore order. While their stories are interlinked and they travel together for the most part, the narrative splits on many occasions, each of your playthroughs focusing on the perspective of either character.
Combat once again uses the Dual Raid Linear Motion Battle System, a real time setup that lets party members link to unleash combo attacks and unlock support skills to overwhelm enemies. The remaster adds practical upgrades such as auto save and earlier access to the Grade Shop to streamline progression for returning and new players alike. It also bundles a range of downloadable content from the original release, including character costumes, bonus items and other extras.
