HoYoverse has confirmed that Version 2.1 of its urban-fantasy action RPG, Zenless Zone Zero, will launch on 16 July 2025. Dubbed “The Impending Crash of Waves”, the update opens the second chapter of the game’s second season, and perhaps fittingly for the northern hemisphere’s summer season, ushers in the coastal districts of Sailume Bay and Fantasy Resort, and gives the under-the-radar Spook Shack faction its moment in the spotlight.
Sailume Bay, tucked beneath the cliffs of Failume Heights, becomes the central hub for the new story chapter. Players join Porcelumex’s safety investigation team as they attempt to resolve the chaos left behind by the Exaltists. The probe introduces Alice Thymefield, a descendant of the influential Thymefield clan who eventually throws her lot in with the Spook Shack. Holiday vibes dominate at the newly added Fantasy Resort, where sandy beaches, tropical backdrops and a hint of mystery provide space for side activities and narrative detours.
Two fresh agents reinforce the Spook Shack roster. Ukinami Yuzuha is an S-Rank Physical support whose tanuki companion, Kama, hurls candy bombs that accelerate Anomaly Buildup for frontline attackers. Her Sweet Scare ability adapts to the active agent’s element via Flavor Match, boosting Buildup efficiency while triggering Aftershock damage. Alice Thymefield also joins as an S-Rank Physical Anomaly wielder who builds Blade Etiquette through refined swordplay; spending these stacks empowers high-impact strikes that enhance both Assault and Disorder outputs. A new S-Rank Bangboo, Miss Eisme, accompanies squads with options to restore Energy or HP, while rerun banners will bring back Miyabi (Frost Anomaly) and Yanagi (Electric Anomaly).
Outside the main questline, Proxies will be given the opportunity to collaborate with the Spook Shack to revitalise a neglected Fantasy Resort. Time-limited activities range from obstacle-laden surfing and on-deck shooting tours to new fishing spots designed for quicker, less repetitive catches. The update also delivers a Bangboo Auto Battler event titled “En-Nah Chess Legend”, complete with player-versus-player matchmaking, and retools the Simulated Battle Trial with a scoring overhaul favouring skilful play. Seasonal cosmetics round out the package, with summer-themed outfits for Yuzuha, Alice and the player protagonists.
