Scottish-German indie studio Yaldi Games has confirmed that their debut title Out and About will launch into early access for PC via Steam on 7 August 2025. Pitched as a “cozy foraging adventure”, the game invites players to immerse themselves in nature, reconnect with community, and gain real-world knowledge about wild plants and fungi.
Set in the small, storm-ravaged town of Portobello, Out and About seeks to blend laid-back gameplay with educational elements. Players are tasked with revitalising their childhood hometown by foraging ingredients, learning about herbal remedies, and building relationships with the locals.
One of the game’s distinct features is its emphasis on real-world plant identification. According to Yaldi Games, players will be able to learn to identify over 100 types of wild plants and fungi (with more than 50 available in the early access release), with that knowledge designed to transfer beyond the screen into real-life environments.
Other features include:
- Foraging for real-world plants and fungi with guidance on their uses
- Cooking more than 150 recipes and herbal remedies (over 90 available in early access), complete with real-life step-by-step instructions
- Exploring an open world that includes forests, wetlands, beaches, and grasslands
- Customising your character with various outfits and hairstyles
- Making friends with Portobello’s residents as they work together toward sustainability
The game, which raised over 380% of its goal during its Kickstarter campaign, also comes with a clear focus on sustainability. Players are encouraged to gather resources mindfully and to “take only what you need”.
