Focus Entertainment Publishing and Asobo Studio have officially announced Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, a new prequel instalment in the A Plague Tale series, slated for release in 2026. The game will be available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
Set 15 years before the events of A Plague Tale: Requiem, this upcoming title introduces players to a new protagonist: Sophia, a determined young plunderer already familiar to fans of the series. Her personal journey will take players to a mysterious and deadly location known as the Minotaur’s Island, blending a grounded medieval atmosphere with elements of ancient myth and darker fantasy.
Sophia’s story will centre on her efforts to uncover a long-buried truth linked to her past, all while being hunted by an army and contending with a hidden force born from ancient legend. Her journey is shaped by combat-heavy gameplay, environmental puzzles, and the presence of the Macula—an enduring supernatural presence in the A Plague Tale universe, which returns in a newly imagined form. Players can expect to shift between two timelines- the Middle Ages and ancient Minoan civilisation – as the narrative threads of the past and present intertwine.
The island itself is set to become a character, filled with deadly traps, intricate paths, and unsettling mysteries. Players will need to rely on agility, parrying, and quick reflexes to outwit both human and non-human threats. Using a stolen Minoan sphere, Sophia can manipulate light to overcome complex puzzles created by the mythological figure Daedalus. With a notebook passed down by her crew, players will be able to track discoveries, revealing lore and uncovering long-hidden secrets of the island.
The game’s development continues the longstanding collaboration between Focus Entertainment and Asobo Studio. David Dedeine, Chief Creative Officer at Asobo Studio, shared insight into the vision behind the project:
We wanted to expand and explore the world of A Plague Tale with a character – Sophia – that is very close to our heart, but within a much more action-oriented experience. This fresh approach comes with intuitive and rewarding combats, as well as a brand-new manifestation of the Macula, the ancient evil. Resonance embraces themes, places and eras that we had never explored before. Taking on this challenge was only possible with Focus Entertainment, who knows our world inside out and with whom we share common trust and ambition.
Echoing this sentiment, John Bert, Managing Director at Focus Entertainment Publishing, commented on the studio partnership and narrative direction:
We are, once again, thrilled to work in collaboration with Asobo Studio. Our partnership proved, over the years, that we share a common passion and ambition for the franchise. Expanding the world of A Plague Tale with Sophia, a character already close to our heart since Requiem, is exciting and we can’t wait to hear what our fans think! Blending myth and combat in this new opus promises to be a great opportunity for all to embark on a new adventure.
