Developer Lente has announced that her clean-up game Spilled! will launch on Steam on 26 March, priced at $6.99 USD (with regional pricing to vary). Additionally, a portion of proceeds will go towards environmental efforts, with $0.10 from each sale donated to Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC).
Pitched as a short and relaxing experience, Spilled! tasks players with piloting a boat to clean up oil spills, recycle waste, and gradually upgrade their vessel. Progressing through new areas, players will encounter different challenges while restoring polluted waters and rescuing wildlife.
Lente, who lives aboard a small boat herself, began developing Spilled! in late 2022 after leaving school to pursue a maritime lifestyle. The game gained further momentum in early 2024 through a successful Kickstarter campaign, which raised €31,600 – over three times its initial €10,000 goal.
Spilled! features eight distinct areas, with players free to complete them at their own pace. As players clean each region, the water becomes clearer, revealing unique underwater life. Along the way, they can enhance their boat with larger oil collectors, bigger tanks, and improved speed, and can also locate and rescue a variety of animals—two in each area, for a total of sixteen. In addition to clearing oil spills, players will face different challenges across each area, such as recycling plastic waste, retrieving lost items, putting out wildfires, and more. These tasks take place across four biomes: grass, rock, sand, and snow.
Most of all however, the art style of Spilled! is very cozy, and one I could certainly see myself chilling out to for an hour or two.
