Set in a future where Earth is dying, Directive 8020 follows an elite space crew sent on a high-stakes mission to scout a potential new home for humanity. Though the Cassiopeia is designed as a colony craft, its reduced crew is meant to conduct testing without landing on the planet. However, as is typical in Supermassive Games’ narratives, things quickly go wrong.
Upon awakening from a four-year hypersleep, the crew discovers a hull breach, a murder, and suspicious behavior among their ranks. The situation escalates when the ship crash-lands on the planet, leaving the survivors stranded in a dark and hostile environment. Players will explore the wreckage of the Cassiopeia and its increasingly nightmarish corridors, which are slowly being consumed by an unknown alien presence.
The latest trailer confirms that the Cassiopeia has been infected by a shape-shifting alien organism, capable of assuming the form of any crew member. This introduces a psychological horror element where trust becomes a dangerous gamble—anyone could be an imposter. To navigate this deadly scenario, Directive 8020 introduces new stealth mechanics, allowing players to evade alien stalkers hiding within the ship.
