During this morning’s PlayStation State of Play broadcast, SEGA unveiled Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, the latest entry in the long-running Sonic the Hedgehog racing series. This new instalment introduces an expanded roster of characters from both the Sonic and wider SEGA universe, alongside fresh mechanics designed to bring a new dimension to high-speed racing.
Building on the series’ signature blend of land, air, and sea courses, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds introduces Travel Rings, a dynamic feature that can transport racers to different CrossWorlds mid-race, altering the track environment and gameplay in real-time. The game also boasts the largest roster of playable characters in any Sonic racing title to date, offering fans a deep selection of familiar faces from across SEGA’s history.
Vehicle customisation is also set to play a key role, allowing players to mix and match different parts, powers, and abilities to tailor their racing experience. This flexibility aims to let players adapt their vehicles to their preferred playstyle while adding an extra layer of strategy to races.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is set to release on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. A release date has yet to be confirmed.
