The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) Update 44 has launched today for PC and Mac users, introducing substantial changes to the game’s PvP Battlegrounds mode and adding two new Companions for players. This free base game update is currently only available for PC, with Xbox and PlayStation releases of ESO set to receive the update on 13 November 2024.
With Update 44, the Battlegrounds PvP format sees a significant shift, now focusing on two-sided matches instead of the original three-sided setup. At launch, players can engage in two primary Battlegrounds modes:
- 4v4 Mode: A competitive format featuring two teams of four.
- 8v8 Mode: A larger format with powerups and two teams of eight players.
The former 4v4v4 mode will no longer be available for standard queues; however, the developers have noted it may return as a limited-time option for future mini-PvP events. Additionally, the new update debuts seven maps specifically designed for this two-sided battle format.
Update 44 also introduces two new Companions, Tanlorin and Zerith-var, who bring unique abilities to the game:
- Tanlorin: A High Elf blending Soul Magic and Dragonknight abilities.
- Zerith-var: A Khajiit Companion skilled in Necromancy.
These Companions are available at launch for free to active ESO Plus members or for purchase in the in-game Crown Store.
