Following the success of their 2020 action game Ghost of Tsushima which won Game of the Year at that year’s The Game Awards, Sucker Punch Productions is back and has confirmed that they are working on a new adventure, titled Ghost of Yōtei, set for release exclusively on the PlayStation 5 in 2025.
This new title introduces a fresh protagonist, Atsu, and takes place over 300 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima. The story is set in the year 1603, amidst the untamed lands surrounding Mount Yōtei, a towering peak in Ezo (modern-day Hokkaido). In this era, the Ezo region lies outside the rule of Japan and is characterised by vast grasslands, snowy tundras, and various hidden dangers. Players will embark on Atsu’s journey through this rugged landscape as they face new challenges and uncover the mysteries of this untamed territory.
Ghost of Yōtei is the first game from Sucker Punch to be built entirely for the PlayStation 5, and aims to push the visual and gameplay boundaries established by Ghost of Tsushima. Players should go into the game expecting massive sightlines with far-reaching vistas, enhanced skies with stars and auroras, and realistic environmental interactions, such as wind through grass and vegetation. The new setting also introduces fresh gameplay mechanics, weapons, and other improvements.
More details on the game’s features and enhancements will be shared in the future.
