In a surprising move, Square Enix has announced that their 2022 turn-based tactical RPG Triangle Strategy, which harkens back to more classic RPG experiences, will be arriving on Meta Quest devices starting 31 October 2024.
The VR version of Triangle Strategy is set to offer a more unique tactical experience, with 360-degree 3D movement and controls adapted to virtual reality controls. Players can directly place and control characters on the battlefield (your party members are quite literally in your hands), in addition to supporting the Passthrough feature on Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S, blending the game’s environment with real-world surroundings for a more immersive experience.
Developed by the team behind Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default, Triangle Strategy centres on a conflict between the kingdoms of Glenbrook, Aesfrost, and Hyzante. Players follow Serenoa Wolffort, alongside key companions including Prince Roland, Princess Frederica, and House Wolffort’s steward, Benedict, as they navigate the turbulent political landscape.
Triangle Strategy was an enjoyable RPG experience which merged classic and modern gameplay elements into something quite memorable, ultimately receiving a 9/10 score from me back in 2022.
