Fun fact: If the annual primary school jump rope competition said anything about me over the years, it was that I am absolutely terrible at rope skipping.
With many still in lockdown to varying degrees amid the COVID-19 pandemic, it can be a struggle to keep fit or even get exercise in. While a few games such as Ring Fit Challenge has helped mitigate that somewhat (if you have been lucky enough to find a copy), Nintendo has recently released a simple, free game which encourages everyone to get a little bit of exercise with just a pair of joycons in their hand.
Developed by a small group of Nintendo developers while working from home with the objective of providing a “simple activity to add some quick and fun movement into their daily lives”, we now have Jump Rope Challenge for the Nintendo Switch. As the title indicates, the goal of this game is simple… jump!
By using a pair of Joy-Con controllers and imagining them as the handles of a skipping rope, players can virtually skip a jumping rope to their hearts content. While a single player can take part in the action using both controllers, two players can skip together by each holding one joycon.
This game is not a fully-fledged Nintendo game in terms of its production values. There is no inclusion of Mii’s, Wii Fit aesthetics or anything along those lines. Instead, it offers simple menus, no tutorials and cute cartoon-like bunnies to help you on your skipping journey.
Jump Rope Challenge is now available to download via the Nintendo eShop exclusively for the Nintendo Switch, and will be free-to-download until the end of September 2020.
