A short while ago, Square Enix in Japan used a new preview trailer to announce that Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition would be available in Japan on 28 August 2020 for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android platforms. After months of quietness around the Gamecube classic and several delays, this was undoubtedly exciting news, but the question was whether we in western markets would have to wait much longer. The good news is… no!
Square Enix has confirmed that the action-RPG will be available across all platforms on 27 August 2020 in North America, simultaneous with the Japanese release. Regardless of which platform you purchase the game on, crossplay functionality is supported, giving you a high level of versatility around whom you party with for your next adventure.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronciles Remastered is a re-release of the 2003/2004 action RPG Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles released for the Nintendo Gamecube. In this tale you take control of a caravan of young adventurers. Each year they leave the comfort of their hometown and travel the world in search of “myrrh”, a mythical substance that can only be found in dangerous dungeons that litter the land. Myrrh is the only thing able to power crystals which keep them and their town safe from the miasma which plagues their world. Should they fail… their village will be no more.
In addition to improvements to visuals and audio, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition comes with many new features and functionalities. These include character voiceovers, online multiplayer, new items, brand new dungeons and bosses to provide new challenges to returning players and more.
For those who might want to take on the form of a character they meet on their journey, this edition features a new ‘Mimic’ feature which will allow players to take the form of various characters they meet on their journey. By collecting stamps and visiting Moogle Houses, or completing difficult dungeons, players will acquire unique crystals which will allow them to change their appearance to that of another.
