[Video] A Peek at Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s “Gameplay”

Although "Gameplay" is a bit of a Stretch...

Last week, Ubisoft unveiled that their next instalment in the long-running Assassin’s Creed video game series would be titled Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Headed to the ninth century during the age of the Vikings, players will step into the shoes of Eivor; a fierce Viking raider raised on tales of battle and glory. At the time of announcement, we only got a peek at the game through a pre-rendered teaser trailer. Thankfully we have not had to wait long for the first opportunity to see what Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has in store for players.

Premiering during Microsoft’s inaugural ‘Inside Xbox’ stream, developer/publisher Ubisoft shared their first, albeit short, look at Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Dubbed the “First Look Gameplay Trailer”, the video highlights many moments of gameplay during its 1 minute and 40 second runtime. At least, that is what one would hope from the title. Instead, the video gives more of an indication of the types of gameplay players should expect, rather than present them in-engine the way you or I would experience it. It could also be presented as a video from Abstergo Entertainment, highlighting their new Animus Omega game I guess.

Given its presence during the Inside Xbox stream, further details were confirmed about its Xbox release. According to a statement from Ubisoft, “With the Xbox Series X, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will take full advantage of its enhanced graphics, giving players the opportunity to experience the open world of Norway and England down to the very last detail. In addition, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will benefit from faster loading times“. Presumably this is against the Xbox One. Not getting the Xbox Series X immediately? Assassin’s Creed Valhalla shall take advantage of the “Smart Delivery” technology, allowing players to buy the game once and play it on either Xbox One or Xbox Series X when both the consoles and the game are available.

Developed by Ubisoft Montreal in collaboration with many other international Ubisoft development teams, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is due to arrive on store shelves in time for Holiday Season 2020 on the Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Google Stadia, Epic Games Store (PC) and the Ubisoft Store (PC).
