Back in the era of the PlayStation Portable, Nippon Ichi Software was an active developer for the platform. While they initially ported across their two Disgaea RPG’s with extra features, they later started a new spin-off IP around the series’ mascot characters – Prinnys. These small, penguin-like creatures house the souls of those who have sinned and are often subservient to the inhabitants of the Netherworld. Given they are most known for being weak with a tendency to explode when thrown… how would they fare when pitted in a challenging platformer?
Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero? and Prinny 2: Dawn of Operation Panties, Dood! were the two main titles in this spin-off IP. With a strict life count of 1,000 prinnys, each game saw players journey across the world on the trivial pursuit of something for Master Etna – the Ultra Dessert or Etna’s stolen panties. While both titles are out of print, Nippon Ichi Software and their Nippon Ichi Software America division have announced the upcoming release of Prinny 1-2 Exploded and Reloaded exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. This collection will feature both games and all previously released downloadable content in the one collection. Prinny 1-2 Exploded and Reloaded is a set of two challenging platformer games being re-released on the Nintendo Switch exclusively at an unspecified date in Fall 2020 (or Spring 2020 for those in the Southern Hemisphere). Expect more information about this title in the coming months.
