First released on the Windows PC in Japan during 2012 and subsequently released on other consoles in the region including the PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch – Sega’s Phantasy Star Online 2 has spent many years in accessible to players in western markets despite the wider Phantasy Star series finding success internationally. While early in its lifecycle it was teased for a western release, plans eventually faded into obscurity…. until E3 2019. During this event it was confirmed that a PC release and surprisingly…. an Xbox One release was in the works for a 2020 launch.
Finally the wait to get into Phantasy Star Online 2 is almost over. Exclusive to those in North America and Canada at this time, it was today confirmed that Closed Beta sign-ups for the Xbox One version have commenced. Players can register by downloading the Xbox Insider Hub via the steps below, and registering their interest in partaking in participating. Progress from this Closed Beta will be retained, and all testers will receive currently unspecified rewards.
Waiting for the PC Closed Beta test? At the moment there are no confirmed plans for such a test to take place, with the official website noting only that the Windows 10 version of the game is “scheduled to launch later in 2020”. There is also no word on if/when PAL regions including Europe, Australia and New Zealand will be able to partake in this test.
