My earliest memories of Disgaea 1 as of spending months and months running between the pre-owned sections of EB Games stores both in my hometown and interstate, on the prowl to track down a copy of the in-demand and hard-to-find tactical RPG. Through a PS2 Classics release on the PlayStation 3 and a DS/PSP portable remake, the game is relatively easy and inexpensive to purchase. With 15 years, five numbered instalments and a number of spin-off titles behind them in the series – Nippon Ichi Software America have confirmed they will be returning to the original story – announcing plans to release Disgaea 1 Complete on the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch later this year.
Disgaea 1 Complete is due to be a remastered version of Disgaea: Hour of Darkness and its remake Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness, offering upgraded graphics and classic gameplay. Players will once again take control of Prince Laharl and his not-always-so-loyal companions Etna and Flonne, as he seeks to conquer the Netherworld and claim the title of Overlord that was once held by his (now deceased) father.
Disgaea 1 Complete will offer the full original storyline, in addition to the alternate story offered in ‘Etna Mode. While you progress through the game, you will be able to take advantage of many classic and newer Disgaea gameplay systems. Rack up the stats of your characters and equipment, dive into the worlds contained within your items, alter the laws of the netherworld in the Dark Assembly and more.
When can we expect Disgaea 1 Complete on store shelves? NIS America are aiming for a ‘Fall 2018’ release on the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. The game will feature English and Japanese voice acting, with English and French subtitles.
