In a rather surprising, last minute announcement, Square Enix have announced they will be bringing the PlayStation 2 Classic Star Ocean: Till the End of Time (Aka. Star Ocean III) over to the PlayStation 4 on May 23rd 2017. This will be a digital-exclusive title, available through the PlayStation Store at a price of $20.99 USD.
Although there is no indication that either the gameplay or visuals will be greatly enhanced as has been the case with their HD Remastered re-releases of PS2 Final Fantasy games, it does come with a few modern-day features found in many PlayStation 4 games such as trophy support, share functionality and remote play.
Star Ocean: Till the End of Time was released on the PlayStation 2 in 2004, and is a sci-fi RPG I quickly fell in love with. To this day it is one of the PS2 RPG’s I look back at most fondly, for its replayability (end-game dungeons, workshop system, multiplayer combat mode etc), fast-paced gameplay and enjoyable story and characters. In a way I am personally a little bit disappointed that tri-Ace and Square Enix haven’t given this a HD remastered release.
Currently taking place at the end of the main Star Ocean chronology, Star Ocean: Till the End of Time follows the journey of Fayt Leingod. After an attack on the resort his family is holidaying in, he is thrust into a journey which will see him and his companions discover arguably the greatest secret of the Star Ocean universe.
