It has been more than a decade since the recently released Final Fantasy XV was first announced as the PlayStation 3 exclusive Final Fantasy Versus XIII. The ten years brought many tentative launch windows, the odd rumour about the state of development, a console generation shift, and even the storyline’s heroine being changed a few years ago (Stella to Luna). But all this is in the past now, since gamers who have waited this long, can now have the game in their hands.
So how well did Final Fantasy XV fare on day one? Square Enix have announced that their day one shipment and digital sales for Final Fantasy XV exceeded five million units. According to them, this has seen Final Fantasy XV become the fastest selling game in the franchise’s history.
Final Fantasy XV is now available for purchase on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One worldwide. The game will be supported post-launch by a range of downloadable content packs, giving players control of Noctis’ three companions.
