With word going around about their console plans for the past few days, Microsoft have announced that a new Xbox One model and wireless controller will be rolling out to gamers very soon.

Xbox One S

Debuting with a new design and “robot white” colour (Compared to the standard black), the new Xbox One S is set to be the smallest and most compact Xbox ever. This model is 40 percent smaller, which is great for those who store their consoles in smaller cabinets. At the moment my Xbox One is set up to be available “on demand”, as its width doesn’t fit any of the cubicles in my gaming cabinet. This model will also have an internal power supply, and supports 4k Ultra HD for Blu-ray movies and content streamed from services like Netflix and Amazon video. Also on offer is High Dynamic Range (HDR) support for video and gaming, which they claim will deliver richer, more luminous colours for games like ‘Gears of War 4’.

Pre-orders for the Xbox One S begin today, and will arrive in stores starting August 2016. The three launch models will come in 500GB, 1GB and Limited Launch Edition 2TB models.

Project Scorpio

Designed to coexist with the Xbox One and Xbox One S, Project Scorpio is what Microsoft claims will be “the most powerful console ever created, with 6 teraflops of GPU delivering a premier console gaming experience including true 4K gaming and high-fidelity virtual reality”. Time will tell if their claims prove to be true once Nintendo and PlayStation provide their newest offerings. All Xbox One games and accessories will support Project Scorpio.

New Wireless Controller

Regardless of if you regularly use an Xbox console, their controllers have proved very valuable when it comes to PC gaming as well. For release in August, Microsoft have confirmed they will be releasing a new Xbox Wireless Controller which has “enhanced comfort” with “a textured grip” and “sleek, streamlined design in white”. This model also includes added Bluetooth radio, making it easier to connect the controller with Windows 10 PCs and tablets.
