[E3 2016] Undertake Operations Across Multiple Dynamic Maps in Battlefield 1

Back in May, Electronic Arts and developer DICE announced the next instalment in their first-person shooter franchise Battlefield would be called Battlefield 1. The game’s title does not indicate plans to restart the series from scratch, but rather represents its backdrop: World War 1.

Electronic Arts have taken the chance during E3 2016 to not only share a new trailer and screenshots for the game, but also describe some of the new technological and gameplay additions being worked on.

First of all, this game will feature “intuitive destruction” and “dynamic weather”, which they claim will “ensure that no battle is ever the same”. Players will be able to carve a path through walls and buildings, take down their enemies in creative ways, and leave a mark on the terrain which will last the entire battle. Therefore, what might begin as a pristine arena could become greatly battle-scarred once up to 64 players make their way through it. Dynamic weather will also see players needing to adapt their tactics, as the elements will have a role in how a battle progresses. Playing the same map on a bright day, in heavy fog and during a downpour will impact what you see or hear, forcing you to adapt your playstyle.

Also included are Operations, a completely new way to play multiplayer. In Battlefield 1 will you play a series of interconnected battles across multiple fronts. Play a sequence of battles where your actions have consequences beyond a single match, as you try to conquer territory or push back your attackers.

Want to change the tide of battle? Players will be able to call Behemoths to the battlefield. These are the largest fully player-controlled vehicles ever seen in the Battlefield series. Take control of an Armored Train, Air Ship, or Battleship to dominate the battlefield across land, air, and sea.

With Battlefield 1 we’re looking to deliver the most dynamic shooter ever. We want to make sure that no battle is ever the same for the players, and with the introduction of Operations, we’re giving the fans variety for game play and creativity. Plus, with the new Behemoths, only in Battlefield 1 can you bring an Air Ship to a dogfight.
