Apparently being able to boast pretty much the highest number of sales ever for a new video game IP was not enough for Activision to brag about, with the company today confirming that in Destiny‘s first week, it had garnered more viewership on Twitch than any other console game launch in 2014. Destiny content was viewed nearly 20 million times in the first week with fans watching almost 240 million minutes of gameplay.

I have personally never seen the fun in watching livestreams, and would rather get hands-on with a game myself, but nevertheless this is another strong feat for Bungie and Activision.

Matthew DiPietro | VP of Marketing at Twitch

To date, Destiny is the biggest console game launch of the year on Twitch. Our passionate community of broadcasters attracted more than 5 million unique viewers in the first week.

David Dague | Community Manager at Bungie

Our community has always blown us away with their desire to share, entertain, and inspire. Watching them broadcast their Destiny experiences on Twitch – from the Tower to the Crucible to the Vault of Glass Raid – has been nothing short of amazing. We’re humbled by the enthusiasm and we hope our community knows we’re watching and laughing and applauding back home at the studio.
