While it was originally set to be a launch title for the PlayStation 4, and more specifically the very first PlayStation Plus release on launch day, DRIVECLUB has since received very little attention since it was indefinitely delayed. Sony Computer Entertainment and their Worldwide Studios division have today announced that the wait for this PS4-exclusive racing title from Evolution Studios is almost over.
It has been confirmed that DRIVECLUB will hit store shelves on the 8th October 2014, finally availing PlayStation gamers the opportunity to actually enjoy a first-party racing game on their current-generation console with Gran Turismo 6 being released only on the last-generation PS3 console.
In an official blog post, President of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida stated the following:
We planned for the game to be ready for early 2014 and are committed to delivering on our ambitious promise of creating a truly innovative, socially connected racing game. The problem with being ambitious is you have to be prepared to accept there will be challenges along the way. What DRIVECLUB offers has not been previously achieved in this category and because of this, the team needed more time to give you the game you’re waiting for.
