With E3 2013 now over, you may or may not be pleased with all the latest announcements made by Sony Computer Entertainment for their upcoming console – the Playstation 4. Turns out that the company are not yet satisfied with their announcements and have since unveiled the Playstation Playroom.

The Playroom is a technical demonstration that highlights some of the experiences that they hope will be possible with the console and its associated peripherals such as the Dualshock 4 controller and the Playstation 4 camera. The overall goal being to produce a fun and new augmented reality experience. To be specific:

Light Bar – Tracked by the PlayStation 4 Camera to create augmentations, like holographic panels around you on screen.

Touch Pad – Easy to use for scrolling and interacting in the various AR environments. Players can touch, move and play with AR characters like Asobi, an interactive flying robot who comes out to play in your living room.

Motion Sensor – Take a look at how a classic Air Hockey game is given a holographic visual treatment, with players stretching, twisting and bending to try to get the upper hand.

Improved Dual Motors – Watch how you can interact in different ways with AR Bots via the DualShock 4 controller’s Dual Motors and Speaker.

Other things included in the demo are how you can bring your mobile phone / tablet / Playstation Vita into the mix and how you can draw anything you like – flick it – and it becomes a 3D plastic toy for the AR bots to chase afterwards.

It is uncertain if this is the only tech demonstration under the Playstation Playroom branding that they will release – however they have guaranteed they will be sharing more updates on the capabilities of the Playstation 4 with gamers in the future.
