Pokemon + Nobunaga’s Ambition – A Game I Never Expected to See….

-

So perhaps I should embrace something different from the usual RPG style of games, but this is one sort of Pokemon game I never expected to see. This game was announced by the Pokemon Company at the currently ongoing Jump Festa event, and in which they shared the above trailer for them. This is a collaboration project between the Pokemon Company and Tecmo Koei in order to deliever a crossover game between Pokemon and the Nobunaga’s Ambition (Nobunaga no Yabou) franchises. Currently nothing much has been announced about this title except what you see in the trailer above, where every character is partnered with a corresponding Pokemon partner. Alas, I don’t think this will be about going to 8 gyms, collecting badges, defeating an evil organisation usually named after the game you purchased OR spread the word of love and friendship by beating the crap out of a fellow friends monster.

The art style itself reminds me of Moemon, an unofficial Pokemon spinoff series that has proved very successful over the years. Moemon, or Moekko Monsters was a hack of the game Pokemon FireRed (Never liked the names FireRead or LeafGreen) on the Gameboy Advance, where every one of the pokemon included in the game (There were a few other modifications made) were Gijinka style such as the Vulpix pictured to the left. Going through the link source mentioned above, currently almost every single official pokemon designed has a Moemon counterpart. In Pokemon + Nobunga’s Ambition, while the Pokemon retain their normal appearances, it seems that most human characters have chosen to take up their counterparts appearance in their design.

For now, the trailer is all we have to go on, however new characters are set to be announced in January. It is due for a Spring 2012 release on the Nintendo DS in Japan. No international release date has been set.
