Rehearsals are confirmed to now be in full swing for the upcoming production of the Broadway musical Annie, which begins its Australian tour at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre from 25 March 2025, where it will remain until 1 June 2025. Following its Sydney run, the production will move to Melbourne’s Princess Theatre from 10 July. The delay between seasons I would imagine is to facilitate rehearsals with the young local performers involved in each season
The cast is led by Anthony Warlow, reprising his role as Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks, a character he previously performed on Broadway. He is joined by Debora Krizak as Miss Hannigan, Mackenzie Dunn as Lily St. Regis, Keanu Gonzalez as Rooster Hannigan, and Amanda Lea LaVergne as Grace Farrell. Making his musical theatre debut, Greg Page, known as the original Yellow Wiggle, will play President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Of course, the lead titular character is portrayed by not one but four alternating actors in the role of Annie – Beatrix Alder, Matilda Casey, Dakota Chanel and Stephanie McNamara for the Sydney season. They will be joined by an ensemble cast of other young performers as Annie’s orphan friends, also alternating between each performance.
Producer John Frost of Crossroads Live commented on the return of Annie to Sydney, saying:
I’m thrilled to bring Annie back to Sydney with this outstanding cast. With new choreography and updated sets, this is going to be a marvellous fresh production of Annie for a whole new generation. Tickets are going fast so line up now to book and see one of the most delightful and inspiring musicals of all time. Don’t wait until Tomorrow!
Tickets for Annie the Musical’s Sydney and Melbourne seasons are now available, with ticketing information via the musical’s official website.
