In the Heights to Open in Melbourne This August, Gold Coast This September

Date:

The musical In the Heights, created by Lin-Manuel Miranda, is set to arrive at Melbourne’s Comedy Theatre from 1 August 2025. Following sold-out performances at the Hayes Theatre and a subsequent season at the Sydney Opera House, the production will also tour to the Gold Coast’s Home of the Arts (HOTA) from 12 September. This Australian tour is being undertaken by Joshua Robson Productions, whose past productions include Little Woman, City of Angels, and Bonnie & Clyde among others

First performed on Broadway in 2008, In the Heights blends hip hop, salsa, and Latin rhythms to tell the story of a close-knit community in New York City’s Washington Heights. As the neighbourhood faces change, its residents reflect on their dreams, challenges, and the meaning of home. This musical also received a film adaptation in 2021, which while having some alterations from stage to screen, was an impressive watch.

The Melbourne and Gold Coast seasons will feature Ryan González (Moulin Rouge! The Musical) as Usnavi, Olivia Vásquez (West Side Story) as Vanessa, Richard Valdez as Piragua Guy, and Mariah Gonzalez as Nina Rosario. Further casting details are expected to be announced soon.

Tickets sales for the Gold Coast season are underway, while public ticket sales for the Melbourne season will commence Thursday 6 March 2025 at 9am. Booking information for both confirmed tour dates are available from the musical’s official website.
