Following their Gold Coast exclusive productions of Wicked, Mamma Mia! and Priscilla: Queen of the Desert, local producer Matt Ward Entertainment has announced the next major project they are working on – Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. This production is due to be held from 11 March 2023 until 9th April 2023 inclusive, in a surprisingly long 4-week season hosted at The Star, Gold Coast.
Casting is confirmed to be underway soon, with auditions for key roles including that of leading character Carole King, to be underway on 16-19 December 2022. The search is on, and Matt Ward Entertainment “welcomes talent of all backgrounds and nationalities”, and claim that “more than 80 new jobs will be created on the Coast between cast and crew thanks to Beautiful”. Carole King is the voice of a generation. The odds are good that Carole King is responsible for a song you love. ‘Natural woman’, ‘You’ve got a friend’, ‘Will you love me tomorrow’, ‘The Loco-motion’, ‘I feel the earth move’ – they’re all King compositions.

From school girl to superstar, Beautiful is a remarkable story that will stay with you long after you leave the theatre. As a female songwriter in the 1960s, she impressively overcame barriers and sold her first hit, ‘Will you love me tomorrow’ by age seventeen. By the time she was twenty she wrote chart toppers for the biggest acts in Rock & Roll – Aretha Franklin, The Drifters, The Shirelles and The Monkees.
This is the second confirmed season for 2023 confirmed by Matt Award Entertainment, the other being their co-production of American Idiot with HOTA: Home of the Arts in Spring 2023 – postponed from this year.
