The Book of Mormon Says Its Final “Hello!” to Australia

Following a three year mission which began at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre in January 2017 and subsequently made its away around the other states, The Book of Mormon yesterday evening concluded its Australian tour with one final Hello! at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre’s (QPAC) Lyric Theatre. While not the last leg of the journey for the company, given they have one final stop-off at The Civic in Auckland, New Zealand – there are no further announced plans of any Australian season after that.

Having amassed more than 1,000 performances since commencing its tour – The Book of Mormon features a book, music and lyrics by Trey Parker (South Park), Robert Lopez (Avenue Q) and Matt Stone (South Park). As one would expect from this trio of creatives, this was an (at-times) NSFW comedy musical, one quite unlike anything you might have seen before.

The Book of Mormon follows the story of two young Mormons, the aspirational Elder Kevin Price and space-cadet Elder Arnold Cunningham – who having completed their training begin their role as missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Known to some as Mormons). Having been sent on a mission to a decrepit village in Uganda dealing with oppression from a fearsome warlord, an outbreak of HIV/AIDS and famine among other issues – this is not a mission that either will find easy…..
