WE WILL ROCK YOU Musical to Receive National Australian Tour in 2016

-

Rock group Queen have today announced that their musical WE WILL ROCK YOU is headed to Australia for a national tour in 2016. At the moment it is unknown when and where each leg of this show’s tour will take place, but they have opened up an Australian Tour 2016 waitlist via the official WE WILL ROCK YOU website.

Having been performed in 17 countries since first launching in 2002, this stage musical is based on the songs of Queen and a book by Ben Elton (Who has also worked on The Young Ones, Blackadder and Popcorn). Elton has fashioned this “futurist comedy” around more than 24 of Queen’s biggest and most renown songs including ‘We Will Rock You’, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, ‘Another One Bites the Dust’ and ‘We Are the Champions’.

The 2016 Australian tour of WE WILL ROCK YOU is being produced by John Frost in association with Queen Theatrical Productions, Phil Mcintyre Entertainment and Tribeca Theatrical Productions. Ben Elton is set to direct the new Australian Production while Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor will be serving as music supervisors.

Ben Elton had this to say:

This show is all about legend. We take the legend of Queen and create our own fantastical story of young kids battling the mighty corporations who want to suppress their individuality and their love of music. They need a hero who can help them in their struggle, and we have two – the dreamer Galileo and the sassy rock chick Scaramouche.

Audiences around the world love WE WILL ROCK YOU because they get the power and energy of the extraordinary music of Queen in a fun rock and roll musical, and this is especially true of Australian audiences. I can’t wait to bring this magnificent show back to Australia.

Brian May had this to say:

The amazing bonus of this show is that Ben’s script subtly works as a metaphor too. People definitely come out of the theatre feeling that in a strange way they now know us, Queen, and our struggle, our journey.
