UDON Entertainment has announced Mega Man: Gear Masters #1, the opening issue of a four-part mini-series built around the classic version of Mega Man. The book is scheduled for release in September 2026.
The series is written by Tavis Maiden with art by Ryan Jampole. According to UDON, it is the publisher’s first comic centred on the classic incarnation of the character, with the story set during the period covered by Mega Man 11.
The plot picks up as a new group of robot masters emerges. In response, Dr. Light equips Mega Man with the prototype Double Gear system. The complication is that the system’s creator, Dr. Wily, intends to reclaim it by any means necessary.
The first issue will ship with a range of variant covers for the direct market. Contributors include Ryan Jampole, Tavis Maiden, a movie poster homage from Jeffrey “Chamba” Cruz, and an incentive cover by Genzoman. You can see all the varying designs below:
Two further covers will be sold exclusively through UDONstore.com. Cover X1, the Roll Fashion Edition, is illustrated by Keenbiscuit and comes packaged with a metal card drawn by Tavis Maiden. Cover X2 is a Shantae Cosplay Variant:
UDON has noted that the Roll Fashion variant will continue across the series, with each issue featuring a new outfit and a matching collectible metal card. Pre-orders for the first issue are open now through the UDON Store and participating comic retailers.
