13 Days of Film Await Gold Coasters, Gold Coast Film Festival 2018 Kicks Off Tonight

-

As one of the major events in the Gold Coast’s annual arts & cultural calendar, each year the Gold Coast Film Festival offers a range of opportunities, from the ability to view films that may not receive widespread cinematic releases to developmental opportunities through Q&A’s with industry leaders. The wait for the 2018 festival to begin has gone from months, to days, to just mere hours – with Gold Coast Film Festival 2018’s opening night to take place at the newly re-branded Home of the Arts (formerly The Arts Centre Gold Coast) this evening.

The festival kicks off with a screening of the Queensland thriller film The Second, which will see members of the cast and the Brisbane-based creative team conclude the screening with a Q&A. As with previous festivals, there is expected to be a ‘who’s who’ of local faces and industry personalities walk the red carpet.

With none of its 13 days devoid of opportunity, there are a range of film screenings and other events to take advantage of. During the ‘Gold Coast Superhero Weekend’ which coincides with Supanova: Pop Culture Expo being in town, they are holding evening screenings of Studio Ghibli films on the Broadbeach Mall Stage. REELLIFE seminars also return, with opportunities to hear from experts about directing, storytelling, film techniques, how to land your first job in the film industry and more.

Following their seemingly successful event last year, the Gold Coast Movie Locations Tour also makes a return. This three and a half hour guided tour will take participants across the Gold Coast, visiting film locations used in over 20 films including Thor: Ragnarok, San Andreas, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and more.

This is just a fraction of what is lined up for the Gold Coast Film Festival. For more information on individual events, visit the official Gold Coast Film Festival website.

The Gold Coast Film Festival will run from 17 – 29 April, and while prominently based at Home of the Arts, will have events and screenings across the Gold Coast.
