Building a collection of anime and video game figures is an expensive hobby. The small collection I have (some of which have been covered on The Otaku’s Study) has easily cost me a few thousand dollars to acquire over the last couple of years. Therefore if you are someone whose favourite characters shift with every season or prefer mainstream characters, and don’t have some form of disposable income, then it might not be the hobby for you. While the most popular figures will sell out during their pre-order period, in situations where you do have the luxury to do so, knowing a figure is tailored to your preferences is essential to ensure you get value for money.

As I have had to pull back from purchasing any new figures for the past couple of months, rather than write reviews of new releases, I would like to share a look at my current figure collection through this new photographic series. I hope my sharing these may help you in deciding whether purchasing a particular figure is a wise decision or note.

Wafuu~! Off the back of writing “Five Visual Novels to Check Out While Staying at Home” yesterday, I feel it is appropriate to showcase a figure based off a character in one of the featured visual novels. Released back in 2010, three years after Little Busters! first hit store shelves in Japan, this figure manufactured by Alter features one of the VNs most recognisable characters – Noumi Kudryavka or “Kud” for short. Based off a piece of CG artwork associated with her character route, this sees her wearing a school uniform w/ her usual cape and hat, catching a Frisbee. It is simple, but nevertheless adorable!

This was one of the very first figures I purchased, albeit second hand. It is one that, due to a combination of both nostalgia and cuteness, I have continually kept prominently displayed in my collection. The figure can be mixed up to your liking as well, with it being possible to remove the hat (which has a magnet to ensure it remains attached to the head), frisbee and cape to suit your preferences. Due to its age and being somewhat readily available on the pre-owned market, it isn’t too hard to find this figure for a reasonable price.
