Crunchyroll has released a new trailer and key visual for Nyaight of the Living Cat, an upcoming post-apocalyptic anime comedy produced by OLM. The series is scheduled to begin streaming from 6 July 2025, with new episodes arriving each Sunday across multiple territories including North America, Europe, Oceania, and parts of Asia.
Directed by Tomohiro Kamitani under the guidance of executive director Takashi Miike – best known for his work on Ichi the Killer, Audition, and 13 Assassins – Nyaight of the Living Cat adapts the manga Night of the Living Cat by Hawkman and Mecha-Roots. The story unfolds in a future where a mysterious virus causes anyone who touches a cat to become one, leading to a global ‘nyandemic’.
The newly released trailer offers a closer look at the show’s blend of comedy and chaos, underscoring what it hopes is a unique and memorable premise with fast-paced action and a wave of furry transformations. Music will also play a central role in setting the tone, with the opening theme “CAT CITY” performed by glam rock band THE YELLOW MONKEY, and the closing theme “Matatabi” by the three-member rock group WANIMA.
The voice cast continues to grow, with recent additions including Tomoko Miyadera, Kazuyuki Okitsu, Atsumi Tanezaki, Satoshi Tsuruoka, Hiroshi Naka, Toshiyuki Morikawa, Tessho Genda, and Shigeru Chiba – each bringing experience from major anime titles such as Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, One Piece, and Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation.
Fans attending Anime Expo in Los Angeles will also have a chance to see the series early, with the first episode screening on 3 July at the Crunchyroll Stage, located in the JW Marriott. Meanwhile, Episodes 3 and 4 of the series will premiere at the 2025 Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal, which runs from 16 July to 3 August.
Nyaight of the Living Cat is directed by Tomohiro Kamitani with series composition by Shingo Irie, character designs by Takao Maki, and music by Koji Endo. The anime is being produced by Sony Pictures Entertainment and Slow Curve, with animation by OLM.
