Sentai Filmworks License Tennis Comedy Anime Softenni!

-

Adding something a little bit older to their pile of anime acquisitions, and quite possibly to be released on store shelves later this year, North American anime publisher Sentai Filmworks have confirmed they now hold the rights to Softenni!. This series is a tennis comedy anime originally aired in 2011, and based on the original manga series written and illustrated by Ryo Azuchi in 2008.

Softenni! follows the life of Asuna Harukaze, a girl with an almost obsessive love for soft tennis, a popular form of tennis developed in Japan using softer, rubber tennis balls. Together with her equally quirky (and sometimes overly enthusiastic) teammates, Asuna does her best to return the challenges that school life and tennis training launch at her!

This anime adaptation has been directed by Ryouki Kamitsubo. Anime production handled by the team at Xebec, who previously worked on the original anime adaptation of Mahou Sensei Negima.

Softenni! will be available through select video-on-demand services soon, and will be followed by a home video release at a later date.
