For quite a few years now, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai has remained an Australian English-language exclusive title, kudos of publisher Siren Visual. While the tables had turned with NIS America acquiring the rights to Umineko no Naku Koro ni, which no Australian publisher has decided to / been able to license, there was no indication of North America ever receiving the chance to acquire a local copy of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai and its OVA episodes. While details are very limited on this release to date, Sentai Filmworks recently announced that they have licensed Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, its sequel Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai and the OVA episodes (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei) which “comprise the third season”.
While Higurashi no Naku Koro ni was dubbed into English and published as ‘When They Cry’ by Geneon Entertainment many years ago, Sentai Filmworks have yet to confirm if any English dub is being commissioned for subsequent seasons. Expect to hear more on the coming months.
