Madman Entertainment to do Theatrical Release of From Up on Poppy Hill (English Dub)

-

As part of their Reel Anime 2012 event, Madman Entertainment held limited-time theatrical releases of four anime films – one of which was Studio Ghibli’s ‘From Up on Poppy Hill’.

The company via their Facebook page have today announced that from the 20th December 2012, you will be able to check out the English dubbed version of the film. Unfortunately the number of cinemas that are screening this seem to be far less than Reel Anime 2012 and much fewer than the earlier screening of Arrietty. The four cinemas they list are as follows:

Melbourne — Cinema Nova
Sydney — Dendy Newtown
Canberra — Dendy Canberra
Perth — Luna Leederville

From an original story by Hayao Miyazaki, Studio Ghibli’s FROM UP ON POPPY HILL is a high school love story that takes place in 1963, the year before the Tokyo Summer Olympics. Umi is a high school girl, living with her family in the beautiful seaside town of Yokahama Bay. Each day she raises a pair of flags in anticipation of the return of her sailor father, who went missing some years previously.

One day Umi meets Shun, a member of the school’s literature club, and the two students decide to restore the school’s rundown clubhouse to its former glory. However, a local businessman plans to demolish the clubhouse for redevelopment, so Umi and Shun band together with their schoolmates in order to stop their beloved clubhouse from destruction. In the process Uma begins to falls in love with Shun, but there’s a secret she will uncover that threatens their future happiness together…

Directed by Goro Miyazaki, FROM UP ON POPPY HILL will screen exclusively in its English language version, with a voice cast including Gillian Anderson, Sarah Bolger, Beau Bridges, Jamie Lee Curtis, Bruce Dern, Jeff Dunham, Isabelle Fuhrman, Christina Hendricks, Ron Howard, Chris Noth, Emily Osment, Aubrey Plaza, Charlie Saxton, Alex Wolff and Anton Yelchin.

If you reside near one of these four cinemas, contact them about times and booking tickets.
