Yet Another Sentai Filmworks Acquisition Announcement – But Not Just Your Normal Anime Series (Planzet)

-

A short while ago Sentai Filmworks, a distributor of English anime releases in North America announced they had acquired the license of a science fiction feature film titled Planzet. This film comes from the creative talents of writer, director and character designer Jun Awazu, the team from the studio CoMix Wave (Children who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below & 5cm Per Second) and Shin Miyahara and Shingo Terasawa who directed the CGI and Music respectively. This film looked familiar, and from memory I was able to get a brief view of it during the Gold Coast Film Festival’s display of CoMix Wave titles and looked pretty good – one I would definately consider picking up.

In 2047, an unknown, alien life-form descends upon the Earth, destroying all the major cities in one fell swoop. The survivors unite and build a Diffusor to stop the Februus, the invaders the military would later codename the FOS, and a temporary peace is achieved. Jump forward to 2053, the present. PLANZET: The final plan, Plan Zed, to retake Planet Earth. A last, desperate counterattack against the enemy. Hiroshi Akishima, soldier in the Planetary Defense Forces Alliance, would like nothing better than a shot at the aliens responsible for his father’s death six years ago. However, the new offensive requires the Diffusor to be dropped, leaving the entire planet terribly vulnerable once more. Will humanity regain the stars or lose everything in the final, ultimate gamble?

You can soon view this through multiple digital outlets, with Sentai Filmworks planning on releasing the series to both DVD and Blu-ray later this year. Now if only they would consider picking up Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below… that is one I would really like to see released over here (A single Australian screening is not enough I tell you!)
